Since the beginning, Vetrina Toscana has been committed to motivating people to cook healthily. Paying attention to what and how we eat is the first step. This is why we are teaming up with the ANT Foundation to put together the 10 commandments of dieting.

  1. Follow a Mediterranean diet based on a daily consumption of plant-based foods such as whole grains, olive oil, fruit, vegetables and legumes, and occasionally animal-based products.
  2. Eat at least 4-5 portions of seasonal fruit and vegetables a day that come from local biodynamic farms. Make sure to eat many different kinds of fruit and vegetables.
  3. Don’t exclude animal-based products but reduce the amount of them in your diet by eating white meat, dairy, eggs and fish once a day. Avoid processed meat and eat oily fish regularly, at least twice a week.
  4. Eat three meals a day with two snacks. Have a good breakfast and use one plate for your main meals, the first being lunch and the second being dinner, always having a side dish of vegetables or bread. Eat fruit and dessert separately from your main meal during your snack time.
  5. Use non-refined grains as they are richer in fibre and probiotics, making sure to not eat too many so to not gain weight.
  6. Use extra virgin olive oil in its raw state as a dressing or condiment but also for frying.
  7. Reduce cooking times to a minimum and make sure not to burn meat.
  8. Wine can be drunk in moderation. Avoid spirits.
  9. Get used to using small amounts of salt and use herbs and spices to flavour meals. Reduce consumption of processed, salted and smoked foods.
  10. Coffee is fine but don’t drink more than 3 cups a day
