Osteria Le Cento Buche opened in 2010 as part of the refurbishment of the old Fratelli Franchi factory, a building which was owned by Prato’s first industrialists.
The restaurant has two dining rooms in stone which, along with the contrasting modern furnishings, give the place real character.
Diners can also eat in the cave beneath the restaurant. The cave, which was revealed thanks to underground streams, has a special, romantic atmosphere.
The chef, Gabriella, prepares a menu of meat and seafood following recipes which highlight simple flavours and traditional produce.
The unusual open-plan kitchen means that diners can see their food being prepared.
The dining room is run by Gabriella’s husband, Loriano, who is also very good at suggesting the best wines for each dish.
Everything is aimed at making this as friendly and welcoming a place as an Osteria should be.
