Podere Ciona is located in the Municipality of Gaiole in Chianti, in the heart of the Chianti Classico Gallo Nero. One of the oldest farms in the area – once owned by the Abbey of Coltibuono – it is located on a hill dominated by the ruins of the Rocca di Montegrossi, facing South and with an unparalleled view of the Chianti hills and the city of Siena.

The wine estate and agriturismo currently extends over 40 hectares of land – 5.5 of which are planted to vineyards and one hectare with olive groves. The property, abandoned for decades, was bought by the Gatteschi family at the beginning of 1990. The great 1997 vintage saw the birth, from the only hectare of Sangiovese vineyard then existing, of the first official wine of Podere Ciona: a Chianti Classico DOCG Riserva. Between 2000 and 2003, the owners decided to replant all the vineyards, build a new cellar and buy a farmhouse near the property to transform it into an agriturismo, today called Le Diacce, which can comfortably accommodate up to 12 people.

Currently the estate produces a Chianti Classico DOCG Annata, a Riserva, a very high level IGT based on Merlot “Le Diacce”, a young IGT based on Merlot and Alicante “Semifonte” and a pure Sangiovese rosé.
