Girogustando in Maremma is back following the summer break, the food and wine tour visiting te restaurants in the province of Grosseto. The initiative brings together local restaurants with chefs from other parts of Italy, offering menus that represent a meeting of different culinary cultures.
The format includes a host restaurant in the area and visiting chef. The aim is to valorize local, high-quality products. The initiative is organized by CAT Confesercenti Toscana, with Confesercenti Grosseto, Chamber of Commerce of Maremma and Tirreno through Vetrina Toscana (the project by the Region and Unioncamere Toscana to promote restaurants and workshops that use local, typical products).
“There are two goals,” says the president of the Confesercenti Giovanni Caso, “present food and wine as a tourist attraction in Maremma, as well as the restaurants and agricultural and wine products produced in the territory.”
“This is an important event,” affirms Gloria Faragli, Confesercenti, “in part because food and wine has become one of the factors that bring in tourists in recent years.
“This fall, there will be another wonderful edition of Girogustando, which, after nearly 20 years in other parts of Tuscany, has become an indispensable event in Maremma over the last four years,” says the president of the Chamber of Commerce, Riccado Breda. “This is a new occasion to demonstrate how useful and positive it is to involve producers in collaborations with public entities and companies to better valorize our typical, high-quality products.”
On September 18, the event begins in Monte Argentario, with “Torre d’argento a Cala Piccola,” hosting “Il Mestolo” from Siena (reservations by calling 0564.825111), while on Thursday, September 19, the event moves to Pitigliano, with “Il Tufo allegro,” hosting “Particolare” from Siena (0564.616192). On Thursday, October 3, “La vecchia Hosteria” in Gavorrano will offer a multi-chef menu in partnership with “Da Ghigo la casa rossa” from Piombino (LI) (0566.844980 or 3398816040). We move to Alberese (GR) on Thursday, October 10, with “Il Melograno di Banditella,” hosting “Fuori porta” from Siena (338.4065702). On Wednesday, October 16, the event will be held in Gavoranno again, at the restaurant “Il Fanta,” hosting “Go.Do. Gourmet domestico burger bar & bistrot” from Lucca (0566.844995). Girogustando ends on October 24 at the restaurant “La Vecchia oliviera” in Campagnatico, with Giannino in san Lorenzo from Florence (0564.996462). The evenings will offer guests the opportunity to taste two different cuisines, alternating typical dishes (usually two appetizers, two first courses, two second courses and two desserts), for a discovery of Tuscan flavours.
The aim is to valorize not only the products but also the territory and what it expresses, from wines (every evening will feature two wineries belonging to the Consorzio Tutela Vini della Maremma Toscana as well as AIS sommeliers) to 0km producers: Seggiano olive oil, Maremman meat, saffron, legumes, Monte Amiata Chestnut IGO, Maremma rice and some products classified as Slow Food. The event is a tour to discover gastronomy while valorizing Tuscan cuisine, local products and the Mediterranean diet.
